Flenniken leads Wolverines to Senior Day win over Westminster

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Senior Sarah Flenniken (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) made her senior day a particularly special one, scoring an early goal that would hold up as the game-winner as the Grove City College women's soccer team earned a key 1-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over rival Westminster on Saturday afternoon at College Field.

Senior Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) made four saves in goal to extend the Wolverines' shutout streak to seven consecutive matches. In addition, recorded her 32nd career victory in net and her 12th shutout, giving her sole possession of first place in program history in that category.

Flenniken gave Grove City (8-8-1, 7-0 PAC) an early 1-0 lead when she netted her second goal of the season in the 10th minute. Her sister, freshman Emily Flenniken (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) dribbled the ball along the left baseline before slotting a ball to junior Kristin Thomas (Ellicott City, Md./Chapelgate Christian), who slid the ball on to Sarah Flenniken for a poke inside the right post.

Emily Flenniken notched the first point of her collegiate career with the assist while Thomas was credited with her second assist of the season.

Despite being outshot by the Titans (13-3-1, 6-1) 7-1 in the first half, the Wolverines would carry their 1-0 lead into halftime, and the team would increase their pressure to outshoot Westminster 7-4 in the second half and earn the victory.

Grove City, who has now won seven consecutive matches, has ensured themselves of a top-three seed in the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament. The Wolverines have outscored foes 25-0 in league play.

The Wolverines will try to remain perfect in PAC play when they travel to Saint Vincent (2-13-1, 2-4-1) on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. conference match.
