Oswego nips Grove City, 3-2
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team fell to 2-1-1 overall Friday afternoon by dropping a 3-2 decision to Oswego State in the opening match of the Fredonia State Blue Devil Classic.
Oswego's Audrey Burbridge broke a 2-2 tie with 44 seconds left by scoring on a free kick from approximately 20 yards out, putting Oswego State (3-1) ahead to stay.
Grove City took a 1-0 lead 28 seconds into the match when Oswego State scored an own goal. Oswego State tied the match at 3:02 on a goal from Bailey Waterbury but the Wolverines answered 29 seconds later when sophomore Lindsay Hutton (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) scored off an assist from junior defender Jordyn White (Mars, Pa./Mars).
Oswego State forged a 2-2 tie when Emma Geyer scored at 25:33. The match remained tied for the next 64 minutes.
In goal, senior Nicole Lapia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) stopped four shots for Grove City. Oswego State outshot the Wolverines, 18-9. Oswego State owned a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Grove City will face Fredonia State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
