White PK puts Wolverines past Mount Union

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior defender Jordyn White (Mars, Pa./Mars) netted a penalty kick goal in the 94th minute to give the Grove City College women's soccer team a 1-0 non-conference victory over visiting Mount Union on Friday afternoon at College Field.

White was awarded the penalty kick just over three minutes into the first overtime period when a Purple Raider defender was called for a hand-ball inside the box. She then calmly converted her third career opportunity and second of the season for the golden-goal game-winner.

Grove City (5-3-1) held a commanding 17-5 advantage over Mount Union (4-5) in total shots and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal during regulation, but neither team could find the back of the net, forcing the overtime period.

Senior goalkeeper Nicole Lapia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) stopped a pair of shots to earn her third shutout of the season.

The Wolverines return to action on Wednesday, visiting Baldwin Wallace for a 7 p.m. start in their final non-conference match of the season.
