Kouzelos leads Wolverines in rout at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Sophomore forward Kat Kouzelos (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) scored twice and senior midfielder Kristin Thomas (Ellicott City, Md./Chapelgate Christian) added a goal and an assist as the Grove City College women's soccer team rolled to a 6-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory at Thiel on Friday evening at Alumni Stadium.

Junior defender Jordyn White (Mars, Pa./Mars), sophomore forward Lacy Harkrader (Mineral, Va./Louisa County) and sophomore midfielder Elena Guerra (Arlington, Texas/Nolan Catholic each added goals for the Wolverines (9-5-3, 4-1-2 PAC) while senior midfielder Abby Mathes (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), junior midfielder Ellen Benbow (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), freshman midfielder Krista Heckman (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and junior defender Kelsey Patton (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) each added assists.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the Tomcats (0-14-1, 0-7) in the ninth minute when Mathes earned her first assist of the season by finding Thomas for her team-leading seventh goal. Thomas then was credited with her team-best fifth assist of the year when her shot was averted by Thiel goalkeeper Mary Oakey but right to Kouzelos, who finished the rebound to make it a 2-0 game in the 20th minute.

Just four minutes later, White extended Grove City's lead to 3-0 when she scored an unassisted goal off a free kick after a Thiel foul, and the Wolverines would score late in the half to take a 4-0 lead into halftime when Benbow found Harkrader for a goal in the 40th minute. White's goal was her third of the season while Harkrader posted her second goal and Benbow her second assist.

Less than four minutes into the second half, Kouzelos would get her second goal of the match and fourth of the season to make it a 5-0 Wolverine advantage by cleaning up another rebound -- this time off a saved shot by Heckman, who was credited with her first collegiate assist.

Grove City would close the scoring at 6-0 in the 89th minute when Patton recorded her first collegiate assist by finding Guerra for her second goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Nicole Lapia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and sophomore goalkeeper Trisha Winters (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) each made two saves in 45 minutes of action to combine for the shutout -- Grove City's ninth of the season.

The Wolverines return to action on Wednesday, visiting Waynesburg in conference action at 6 p.m.
