Grove City falls in semifinal round

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team concluded the 2015 season Saturday evening by dropping a 3-2 decision to Lebanon Valley in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Tournament at Arcadia University.

No. 3 seed Grove City (12-7-4) trailed 3-0 at halftime but rallied in the second half. Freshman forward Krista Heckman (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) opened the Wolverines' scoring with an unassisted goal at 77:40.

Grove City then trimmed the lead to 3-2 at the 87:29 mark when senior forward Kristin Thomas (Ellicott City, Md./Chapelgate Christian) blasted in her ninth goal of the season.

Second-seeded Lebanon Valley (14-6) scored 42 seconds into the match when Teanna Shutt scored the first of two goals. Shutt then scored at 24:55. Shutt assisted a goal by Sammy Bost at 38:14, giving LVC a 3-0 lead.

Lebanon Valley owned an 11-9 edge in shots and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. In goal, senior Nicole Lapia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) stopped one shot.

Saturday's match marked the first meeting between the teams since the 2000 ECAC Tournament.

Grove City will lose Lapia, Abby Mathes (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), Thomas, Sammie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Madison Zajicek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) to graduation.
