Whitbeck qualifies in 2001 opener
GROVE CITY, PA, October 27, 2001--Sophomore All-American Peggy Whitbeck (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) wasted little time earning a trip back to nationals, beating the NCAA's provisional qualifying standard in the 200-yard butterfly as the Lady Wolverines dropped their season opener to visiting Carnegie Mellon University, 135-107.
Whitbeck, the 2000 NCAA Division III runner-up in the 200 fly, won Saturday's event with a time of 2:11.67. The 2001 Division III provisional standard is 2:12.99. Whitbeck also placed first in the 400 individual medley, touching in 4:45.99, and swam on the winning 400 medley relay team, which finished in 4:13.43. Sophomore Julie Pullin (Munroe Falls, OH/Hawken Upper), freshman Jacquie Adlam (Ambler, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) and senior Sarah Erdos (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) were the other winning relay members.
