
GCC slips into third at Allegheny
MEADVILLE, PA, November 10, 2001--Sophomore Peggy Whitbeck (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) posted first-, second- and fourth-place finishes as the Lady Wolverine swimming and diving team placed third at the three-school Allegheny College Distance Invitational on Saturday.
Whitbeck won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:13.76 and placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:14.26) and fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:40.23).
Freshman diver Rachel Druschel (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) earned third-place points on the one-meter (192.85) and three-meter boards (140.80). Freshman Karen Rodgers (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) placed fifth in both the 200 butterfly (2:25.14) and 1650 freestyle (19:28.54), while sophomore Julie Pullin (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) contributed a sixth-place swim in the 200 back (2:25.23).
Senior Sarah Erdos (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown), freshman Erin Claxton (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union), Rodgers and Whitbeck placed fifth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:38.60. Pullin, freshman Chelsea Rasmussen (Gaithersburg, MD/Northwest), sophomore Julie Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) and sophomore Carolyn Shaddak (Oswego, NY/Oswego) finished sixth in the 800 free relay in 8:56.38.
The College of Wooster won the meet title with 948 points. Allegheny
(348) and Grove City (319) finished second and third,
respectively.
