Grove City drops opener to powerhouse CMU

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three Grove City College swimmers picked up individual victories Saturday night as the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team dropped a 150-89 decision to Carnegie Mellon (1-1) at the Grove City College Pool.

Senior Peggy Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) won the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly while also contributing a leg to Grove City's victorious 200 medley relay.

Junior Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) took first in the 1000 free while sophomore Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) earned first in the 100 free. Magee joined Whitbeck, sophomore Cecilia Larsen (Seattle, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) and senior Julie Pullin (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Gates Mills) on the victorious 200 medley relay.

Grove City (0-1) will compete in the Allegheny Sprint and Distance Invitationals Nov. 7-8 in Meadville.
