Grove City women take 3rd at Allegheny Sprint meet 

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving squad placed third at the Allegheny Sprint Invitational Friday night at Mellon Pool, accumulating 303 team points.

Wooster won the event with 365 points while Geneseo State (N.Y.) took second with 359. Allegheny placed fourth with 219 points.

Senior Peggy Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) paced Grove City with a victory in the 100 butterfly, turning in a time of 1:00.02. She also earned runner-up in the 200 individual medley with a 2:13.90, just .23 seconds out of first.

Also for Grove City, sophomore Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) placed fourth in the 100 free with a 57.29, two spots ahead of senior Carolyn Shaddak (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego). Shaddak also placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke. 

Sophomore Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) took fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.62. 

Magee, Shaddak, Whitbeck and senior Julie Pullin (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Gates Mills) placed third in both the 200 medley relay (1:58.58) and 200 free relay (1:45.22). 

Grove City returns to Meadville Saturday for the Allegheny Distance Invitational.
