Grove City downs Mount Union, 115-86

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Senior Peggy Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) picked up three victories to help lead the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team to a 115-86 win at Mount Union Thursday night in non-conference action.

Whitbeck, a six-time All-American, won the 100 butterfly (1:00.01), the 200 individual medley (2:19.88) and the 1000 free (10:48.92) for Grove City (4-2). 

Junior Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) won the 200 free in 2:05.74 while junior Karen Rodgers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) won the 50 free in 26.31 seconds. Sophomore Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) took first in the 100 free (59.49) while senior Annie Lindsay (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.97.

The relay quartet of Rodgers, Schade, senior Julie Pullin (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Gates Mills) and junior Jacquie Adlam (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 2:02.59. 

Freshman diver Alexis Zanias (Coplay, Pa./Lehigh Valley Christian) won the 1-meter diving competition. 

Senior Carolyn Shaddak (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) took second in the 200 free (2:07.24) while sophomore Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) took second in the 100 fly in 1:06.15. 

Freshman Emily Hays (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) placed second in 1-meter diving. 

Grove City hosts Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington and Jefferson Saturday at 1 p.m.
