Grove City improves to 6-2

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Seven different Grove City swimmers picked up wins Wednesday night as the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team earned its fourth straight win by downing visiting Penn State Behrend, 103-80, at Grove City College Pool.

Grove City (6-2) swept the freestyle races as sophomore Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) won the 50 in 26.24 seconds while junior Karen Rodgers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) won the 100 free in 58.06. Senior Carolyn Shaddak (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) won the 200 free in 2:05.60.

Senior Peggy Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) won the 400 individual medley (4:43.51) for Grove City while junior Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) won the 200 butterfly in 2:25.45. Senior Annie Lindsay (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) won the 200 backstroke in 2:23.69.

Freshman Emily Hays (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) won 1-meter diving while the quartet of Lindsay, Whitbeck, Magee and sophomore Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) won the meet-opening 400 medley relay with a time of 4:27.06. 

Grove City hosts Wooster Saturday at 1 p.m. The Wolverines are looking to finish the dual-meet season 7-2, which would be their best record since going 11-1 in the 1996-97 season.
