Wolverines 5th after first night

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team is in fifth place after the first night of competition in Grove City's 8th Annual James E. Longnecker Invitational at College Pool.

Grove City accumulated 178 team points. Carnegie Mellon leads with 285.5 points, followed by Washington and Jefferson (243), Gannon (237) and California, Pa. (206).

The Wolverines closed the first night of action in stellar fashion as the quartet of junior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled), junior Jaclyn Bellissimo (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), freshman Christie Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and senior Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) won the 800 free relay with a mark of 8 minutes, 6.85 seconds.

Bare also finished third in the 200 free (1:59.85) while Magee took fifth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:58.50. Senior Jacquie Adlam (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) took sixth in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:10.89.

Second-day action begins at 11 a.m. Saturday.
