Bare earns pair of wins as Grove City claims fifth
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College senior Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) picked up victories in both the 500 and 1650 free races Saturday, helping host Grove City earn fifth place in the 10-team James E. Longnecker Invitational at College Pool.
Grove City accumulated 453 points to earn fifth. Carnegie Mellon won the team title with 665.5 team points, holding off California, Pa. (633). Gannon (573) and Washington and Jefferson (563) rounded out the top five.
Bare won the 1650 Saturday morning with a time of 18:29.75, then won the 500 Saturday night with a time of 5:18.18. She also joined junior Jaclyn Bellissimo (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), freshman Christie Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and junior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) on Grove City's fourth-place 400 free relay effort. That quartet posted a time of 3:44.61
Magee took third in both the 50 (25.26) and 100 free (54.76) races while Hebda took sixth in the 50 free with a time of 25.87. Bellissimo, senior Karen Rodgers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), Hebda and Magee finished third in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:42.72.
Senior Jacquie Adlam (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.54), one spot ahead of junior Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), who posted a time of 2:35.91.
In 3-meter diving competition, sophomore Emily Hays (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) took third with 195.75 points.
Grove City will host Hiram next Saturday at 1 p.m.
