Grove City 3rd after first night of Championships
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team is in third place after one night of action at the three-day Grove City College Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships. Grove City earned 152 team points, trailing PAC rivals Washington and Jefferson (211) and Westminster (210).
Senior distance specialist Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) took third in the 500 free, posting a time of 5 minutes, 17.85 seconds.
The quartet of junior Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), junior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled), freshman Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and freshman Christie Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) opened the meet by finishing third in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:40.69.
Magee took fifth in the 50 free (25.41) and sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:16.89). Brozenic, Hebda, senior Karen Rodgers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and senior Emily Bolek (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) closed the meet by combining for a fifth-place finish in the 400 medley relay (4:18.11).
During the finals, Washington and Jefferson freshman Kaitlyn Orstein set a new NCAA Division III record in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:03.58.
Friday's preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. The finals are set for 6 p.m.
