Grove City opens 2005-06 season

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened the 2005-2006 season with a fourth-place finish at the Westminster Relay Carnival Friday night. Grove City accumulated 318 team points, trailing only Westminster (346), Edinboro (334) and Allegheny (322).

The quartet of freshman Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled), senior Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), freshman Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and sophomore Christie Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) won the 400 medley relay with a time of 4 minutes, 13.65 seconds.

Brannon, Bower and freshman Whitney Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) took second in the 300 backstroke relay with a time of 3:14.91. Bower, senior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) and sophomore Gabrielle O'Brien (Richmond, Va./Homeschooled) placed second in the 300 butterfly relay in 3:16.44.

Magee, senior Jaclyn Bellissimo (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), sophomore Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Hebda finished third in the 800 free relay (8:28.73) while Fairchild, Hebda, senior Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) and senior Cecelia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) took third in the 500 crescendo relay (5:11.88).

Grove City will compete in the Allegheny Distance Invitational next Saturday.
