Grove City takes 3rd at Longnecker Invitational
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team placed third out of nine teams Saturday night in the 9th annual James E. Longnecker Invitational at the Grove City College Pool. The Wolverines earned 568 points, trailing only Carnegie Mellon (777) and Washington and Jefferson (633.5).
In Saturday's first session, freshman Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) took second in the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 4.03 seconds and added a fifth-place finish in the 100 fly (1:01.29). Senior Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.19) while freshman Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled) placed third in the 100 backstroke (1:04.21).
Senior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) finished fourth in the 400 individual medley (5:02.91) while senior Jaclyn Bellissimo (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) took fifth in the 200 free (2:04.08). Sophomore Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) finished sixth in the 200 free (2:04.35).
Brannon, Brozenic, Bower and freshman Whitney Baur (Ambler, Pa./North Penn) combined for a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:55.12). The 800 free relay team of Magee, sophomore Christie Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), Keefer and Bellissimo closed the first session with a third-place finish in 8:21.49.
Saturday night, Brozenic took third in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.54), one place ahead of Baur (2:34.42). Bower claimed third in the 200 butterfly (2:16.88) while Brannon finished fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:21.43). Hebda, Keefer, Magee and Bellissimo finished fifth in the 400 free relay (3:49.78).
Grove City will host Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet Wednesday night.
