Grove City 3rd after first day of PAC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving is in third place after the first day of the 10-team 2006 Grove City College Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships. The Wolverines accumulated 149 team points Thursday night, trailing only Washington and Jefferson (221) and Westminster (219).

Grove City's 200 free relay team of sophomore Christie Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), sophomore Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), freshman Whitney Baur (Ambler, Pa./North Penn) and senior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) earned second place with a time of 1 minute, 38.62 seconds.

That time surpasses the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard for the 200 free relay.

Hebda added a second-place finish in the 50 free (25.01) while Baur took fifth in the 50 (25.28). Magee placed sixth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:16.62.

Magee, freshman Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled), senior Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) and freshman Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) closed Thursday night's session with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay (4:06.79).

Friday's preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. The finals are set for 6 p.m.
