Grove City 3rd entering final day

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team is in third place after the second night of the three-day, 10-team Grove City College Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships.

Grove City has accumulated 413 team points through the first two days. Westminster (549) pulled ahead of Washington and Jefferson (503) for first place Friday night.

Grove City opened Friday night's finals by taking third in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of freshman Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled), senior Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), freshman Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and freshman Whitney Baur (Ambler, Pa./North Penn) posted a time of 1 minute, 53.43 seconds.

Bower took second in the 100 butterfly (1:00.80) while Baur finished third in the 400 individual medley (4:55.86). Bower also finished sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.82). Brozenic placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.73). Senior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) took third in the 200 free with a mark of 2:00.07.

Also for the Wolverines, senior Jaclyn Bellissimo (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), sophomore Christie Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), sophomore Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Magee combined for a third-place finish in the session-closing 800 free relay (8:22.57).

Bellissimo took fifth in the 200 free (2:02.97) while Brannon finished fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.04).

Saturday's preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 5:30 p.m.
