Grove City 5th after first night
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team is currently in fifth place after the first night of the 10th annual James E. Longnecker Invitational at the Grove City College Pool. The Wolverines accumulated 134 total points. Washington & Jefferson currently leads with 261 points while Carnegie Mellon is second at 212.
Freshman Jane Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships by winning the 50 free in a time of 24.32 seconds. That time surpasses the NCAA "B" qualifying standard. It is also a new College record, breaking the mark of 24.46, set by Sarah Erdos in 1999.
Wilson, sophomore Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University), sophomore Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and junior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) opened the meet by combining for a second-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:41.66). Keefer also took third in the 50 with a mark of 25.46.
Wilson, sophomore Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled), sophomore Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and senior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) closed Friday's session by taking fifth in the 400 medley relay (4:20.82).
Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m.
