Grove City women take 5th at Longnecker Invite
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team finished fifth at the nine-team, two-day James E. Longnecker Invitational in the Grove City College Pool. Grove City accumulated 419 total points. Washington & Jefferson won the team title with 850 points.
Freshman Jane Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) secured Grove City's lone victory Saturday by winning the 100 free in 54.20 seconds. Junior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) earned runner-up honors behind Wilson in the 100, taking second with a time of 55.75. Keefer also finished third in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.44.
Sophomore Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) took fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.66) while classmate Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:40.43. Baur also finished sixth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:13.27. Sophomore Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) took sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:25.95).
Two Grove City relay teams each finished third. Wilson, Bower, McRuer and sophomore Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled) combined for a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:58.04. Wilson, Baur, McRuer and Keefer closed the meet by taking third in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:46.41.
Grove City will return to dual-meet action Wednesday night at Bethany.
