Grove City wins PAC opener

BETHANY, W. Va. -- Sophomore Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) and freshman Jane Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) each earned two individual victories Wednesday night as the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference action with a 100-77 win at Bethany. Grove City is now 5-5 overall.

McRuer won the 200 free in 2 minutes, 8.21 seconds. She also won the 100 free (58.21). Wilson, meanwhile, touched first in the 50 free (25.40) and 100 butterfly (1:05.17). Wilson, sophomore Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled), sophomore Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and senior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:59.41.

Sophomore Whitney Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) won the 200 individual medley in 2:27.37.

Grove City will close 2006 Saturday afternoon with a non-conference dual meet against visiting Hiram at 1 p.m.
