Grove City takes two

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team closed the home portion of the Wolverines' dual-meet schedule Friday night by picking up a pair of non-conference wins. Grove City earned a 151.5-122.5 victory over Penn State Behrend and also received a forfeit win from Pitt-Bradford.

Six different swimmers earned wins for Grove City (7-9). Freshman Jane Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) swept the sprints, winning the 50 free in 24.33 seconds and the 100 free in 54.95. Junior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) won the 200 free while sophomore Rebecca Smiddy touched first in the 1000 (11:45.69).

Grove City swept the backstroke events as sophomore Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled) won the 100 (1:05.65) and freshman Rachel Johnson (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain) captured the 200 back (2:21.85). Sophomore Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:26.33.

Wilson, Keefer, sophomore Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and senior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) opened Friday night's meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:58.57).

Grove City will visit California University of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the dual-meet finale. Grove City will meet the host Vulcans and Fairmont State.
