Grove City tops Chatham in PAC opener
PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened the dual-meet portion of the 2007-08 schedule Saturday with a 152-142 road win over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Chatham University. Grove City is 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the PAC.
Freshman Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) earned three individual victories for Grove City. Bargery won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 10.78 seconds. She also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.20 and the 200 individual medley with a victorious time of 2:21.88.
Senior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) won the 100 free in 56.85 seconds while freshman Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) won the 50 free (25.44). Sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) won the 200 backstroke in 2:18.51 while junior Rebecca Smiddy (Miami, Fla./Homeschooled) captured first in the 1000 with a time of 11:32.79.
Keefer, Page, freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and freshman Katie Brunk (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) clinched the win by winning the meet-ending 400 free relay. That quartet posted a time of 3:46.04.
Freshman Stephanie McNeill (Louisville, Ky./Brazoswood, Texas) won 1-meter diving with 159.25 points.
Grove City will host Carnegie Mellon next Saturday, November 10 at 1 p.m. in a non-conference dual-meet.
