Wolverines clip Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team wrapped up 2007 with a 153-131 victory at Hiram Saturday afternoon in a non-conference dual meet. Grove City is now 5-4 overall this season.

Freshman Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) helped pace Grove City by recording three individual wins. Bargery won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1 minute, 19.95 seconds, then won the 200 breaststroke in 2:50.89. She completed her hat trick by winning the 200 individual medley in 2:37.52.

Freshman Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) swept the sprints, winning both the 50- and 100-meter free races. Page won the 50 in 28.55 seconds, then won the 100 in 1:02.51.

Junior Rebecca Smiddy (Miami, Fla./Homeschooled) opened the individual races by winning the 800-meter free in 10:10.70.

Bargery, Page, sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) captured the 200 medley relay in 2:11.54. Page, senior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), junior Whitney Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) and freshman Katie Brunk (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) clinched the meet victory by winning the 400 free relay in 4:16.58.

Freshman Stephanie McNeill (Louisville, Ky./Brazoswood, Texas) swept the diving events for Grove City. McNeill won 1-meter diving with 144.40 points, then picked up a win on the 3-meter board with 159.50 points.

Grove City is idle until January 19, 2008, when Grove City hosts Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m.
