Wolverines sweep double dual

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team earned a pair of non-conference wins Friday night in a double dual meet at Penn State Behrend. Grove City (7-7) earned a 72-57 victory over Behrend. The Wolverines also downed Pitt-Bradford, 93-16.

Three Grove City swimmers recorded a pair of individual victories. Junior Whitney Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) captured the 1650 in 19 minutes, 34.52 seconds. She also won the 200 backstroke in 2:27.05.

Freshman Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) swept the breaststroke races. Bargery won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.44, then won the 200 with a time of 2:38.30. Classmate Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) touched first in both the 100 free (56.22) and 200 butterfly (2:25.37).

Junior Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled) won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.17 and freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) captured the 200 free in 2:07.30.

Bargery, Baur, sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and freshman Katie Brunk (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) opened Friday's competition by winning the 400 medley relay in 4:19.53.

Grove City will wrap up the 2007-08 regular season Saturday against visiting Wooster at 1 p.m.
