Wolverines earn second

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team finished second at the 18th annual Grove City Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships Saturday night as the Wolverines accumulated 656 team points. Washington & Jefferson won the team title with 755 team points while Westminster placed third with 632 team points.

Grove City clinched second place by winning the meet finale -- the 400 free relay. Freshman Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled), freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), senior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and freshman Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) capped the meet by posting a victorious time of 3 minutes, 33.46 seconds. That time also eclipses the NCAA Championships provisional, or "B", qualifying standard.

Page also won the 100 free in an NCAA "B" time of 53.03. She also won the 50 and 200 free races during the three-day event and shared the Invitational's High Point Award with W&J senior Kaitlyn Orstein.

Keefer earned second in the 100 free (53.68) while Bargery earned runner-up in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:29.92. Sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a runner-up time of 2:08.70 in the 200 backstroke.

Freshman Stephanie McNeill (Louisville, Ky./Brazoswood, Texas) finished second in 3-meter diving with 324.15 points.

Baur added a third-place effort in the 100 freestyle (53.87) while junior Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) took fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:21.13).

It is Grove City's best finish at the Invitational/PAC Championships since 2000.
