CMU tops Grove City

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened the dual-meet segment of the 2008-09 schedule Saturday afternoon with a 178-121 setback against perennial powerhouse Carnegie Mellon.

Five Grove City athletes earned individual victories Saturday. Freshman Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) won the 1000 freestyle in 11 minutes, 0.54 seconds while classmate Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.25.

Sophomore Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) touched first in the 100 free (55.18) while sophomore Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.24.

Freshman Bethany Johnson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) won 1-meter diving with 222.97 points.

Grove City will host Chatham and Hiram in a double-dual meet Saturday, November 15. It is Grove City's home opener.
