Wolverines sweep Chatham, Hiram

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team earned a pair of victories Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines downed Chatham and Hiram in the 2008-09 home opener. Grove City (2-1, 1-0) downed Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Chatham 194-95 and also earned a 191-99 victory over Hiram.

Two freshmen each picked up three individual victories in Saturday's sweep. Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) won the 1000 in 10 minutes, 56.91 seconds. She also won the 500 in 5:25.64 and captured with 200 butterfly with a time of 2:18.67.

Meanwhile, classmate Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) swept the breaststroke and also won the 200 free in 1:59.65. Wilt won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.07, then touched first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:31.49.

Freshman Bethany Johnson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) set a new Grove City record in winning 3-meter diving. She earned 217.20 points on the high board.

Junior Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) swept the backstroke. She won the 100 in 1:02.45, then took the 200 backstroke in 2:15.70. Sophomore Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) swept the sprints. She won the 50 free in 24.92, then captured the 100 free in 54.63 seconds.

Page, freshman Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), sophomore Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) and freshman Emily Kramer (Ankeny, Iowa/Homeschooled) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:53.79. Wilt, sophomore Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), Kramer and Page closed the meet by touching first in the 400 free relay (3:45.77).

Grove City will host Saint Vincent Friday evening in a matchup of PAC members.
