Grove City downs Gators

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 6-2 overall Tuesday night with a 159-139 victory over visiting Allegheny in a non-conference dual meet at the Grove City College Pool.

Three Grove City competitors each posted a pair of individual victories. Junior Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) swept the backstroke while freshman Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) picked up two wins in the distance events. Thompson won the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 2.36 seconds before posting a victorious time of 2:14.43 in the 200 backstroke.

Richert opened her evening by winning the 1000 (10:54.40). She then won the 500 free in 5:18.69.

Freshman Bethany Johnson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) swept the diving events. She won 1-meter diving with 208.50 points, then prevailed on the 3-meter board with 192.90 points.

Sophomore Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) won the 100 free in 54.30. Grove City sewed up the win by taking first in the meet-ending 800 free relay as Richert, Thompson, Page and freshman Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) combined for a winning time of 8:04.96.

Grove City will return to action Dec. 5-6 when the Wolverines host the Longnecker Invitational.
