Grove City tops Bison
BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team is now 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference after the Wolverines picked up a 98-79 win over host Bethany Wednesday night in PAC dual-meet action.
Senior Whitney Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) and sophomore Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) both earned a pair of wins for Grove City. Fairchild won the 1650 in 19 minutes, 25.82 seconds. She later won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.30.
Bargery won the 50 in 26.34 seconds, then touched first in the 100 free (57.25).
Also for Grove City, Rebecca Smiddy (Miami, Fla./Homeschooled) won the 200 free (2:08.65) while freshman Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) won the the 200 individual medley in 2:24.59. Senior Ruth Wiedeman (Beltsville, Md./Cedar Brook) captured the 100 butterfly in 1:11.12 while freshman Kara Sisley (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) won the 500 with a time of 5:36.90.
Freshman Bethany Johnson (Huntington Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) won 1-meter diving with 201.35 points.
Fairchild, Wiedeman, junior Andra Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) and sophomore Tiffani Douglas (Sayre, Pa./Homeschooled) opened the night by winning the 200 medley relay in 2:06.84.
Grove City returns to action January 17 at Washington & Jefferson.
