Wolverines edge Wooster to set win record
WOOSTER, Ohio – The Grove City College women’s swimming and diving team concluded the winningest regular season in program history Saturday afternoon by earning a 153-141 win over host Wooster in a non-conference dual meet.
The victory is Grove City’s 12th of the season, which surpasses the previous record of 11, set most recently during the 1996-97 season.
Three Grove City performers earned a pair of individual victories Saturday. Sophomore Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) swept the breaststroke events while sophomore Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) won both the 50 and 100 free. Freshman Bethany Johnson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) swept diving.
Bargery won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 10.02 seconds. She then posted a time of 2:31.28 in winning the 200 breaststroke. Page won the 50 in 25.00 seconds and then touched first in the 100 free with a 54.57 clocking. Johnson won 1-meter diving with 218.60 points. She then took first on the 3-meter board with 188.25 points.
Also for Grove City, freshman Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) won the 500 free in 5:24.85.
Richert, freshman Emily Kramer (Ankeny, Iowa/Homeschooled), freshman Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) and Page clinched the win by taking first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41.14.
Grove City also won 11 meets in 1992-93 and 1993-94. The 1995-96 team won 10 dual meets.
The Wolverines will now prepare for the season-ending Grove City Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships February 12-14.
