Grove City rolls Allegheny
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team earned a 136-104 victory over host Allegheny Saturday afternoon in the Wolverines' 2009-10 dual-meet opener.
Two Grove City athletes earned multiple wins Saturday. Sophomore diver Bethany Johnson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) won both diving events. She won 1-meter diving with 203.40 total points, then accumulated 217.65 points in winning the 3-meter competition.
Meanwhile, freshman Kaitlin Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) won both the 200 butterfly and the 500 free. Riesmeyer recorded a time of 2 minutes, 12.68 seconds in the 200 fly, then posted a time of 5:21.12 in winning the 500.
Junior Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) won the 200 breaststroke (2:34.36) while freshman Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the 200 individual medley in 2:14.94. Senior Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) took first in the 200 backstroke (2:19.53).
Ryan, Bargery, Riesmeyer and junior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay in 4:08.37.
Grove City (1-0) will host Carnegie Mellon November 14 at 1 p.m.
