Wolverines win Longnecker Invitational
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team won the team crown at the 13th annual James E. Longnecker Invitational Saturday night in the Longnecker Competition Pool. Grove City concluded the two-day event with 1,132 team points. Washington & Jefferson took second with 619 points.
Freshman Kaitlin Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) earned two wins Saturday to help pace Grove City. She won the 200 free in 1 minute, 58.48 seconds, then took first in the 200 butterfly (2:12.65).
Sophomore Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) won the 1650 in 18:25.68 and sophomore Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) earned a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.74).
Grove City also won a pair of relays Saturday. Richert, Riesmeyer, freshman Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) and freshman Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) won the 800 free relay in a time of 8:01.49. Ryan, Richert, Palumbo and junior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) won the 400 free relay in a meet-record time of 3:37.37.
Richert also took second in the 200 free (1:59.36) while Palumbo placed second in the 100 free (54.34). Palumbo added a third-place finish in the 200 free (1:59.50) while Ryan took third in the 400 individual medley (4:50.16).
Also for the Wolverines, Wilt earned third in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.09) and junior Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) placed third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:32.07.
Grove City will visit Hiram next Saturday in a non-conference dual meet.
