Grove City tops Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 8-0 Saturday afternoon by earning a 143-136 victory over host Hiram in a non-conference dual meet.

Grove City recorded 10 total wins in the meet victory. The Wolverines opened the meet by winning the 200-meter medley relay as freshman Olivia Forish (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), freshman Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity), freshman Michelle Shimrock (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) and sophomore Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) recorded a victorious time of 2 minutes, 15.13 seconds.

Wilt also won the 200-meter freestyle in 2:21.12 while Palumbo took first in the 100m breaststroke (1:23.71). Forish won the 50-meter free in 29.70.

Also for Grove City, freshman Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the 200m butterfly (2:40.02) and the 200m backstroke (2:36.99). Sophomore Emily Kramer (Ankeny, Ohio/Homeschooled) took the 100m backstroke (1:14.42) while freshman Natalie Keibler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) took first in the 100m free (1:04.63).

Sophomore Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) won the 800 meters in 10:32.90 and sophomore diver Bethany Johnson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) prevailed on the 1-meter board with 182.05 points.

Four swimmers also touched first in exhibition races. Fleming touched first in the 200 breaststroke (2:59.08), Wilt posted a time of 4:56.73 in the 400 free, Shimrock touched first in the 100 fly (1:14.84) as did Palumbo in the 200 individual medley (2:38.30). Wilt, Forish, Kramer and Fleming posted a top time of 1:59.91 in the 200-meter free relay.

Grove City will host Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson Saturday, January 16, 2010.
