Wolverines improve to 9-0
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City College women’s swimming and diving team improved to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon by earning a 148-141 win over visiting Washington & Jefferson in a PAC dual meet at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. It is Grove City’s 13th consecutive victory.
Freshmen Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Kaitlin Riesemeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) both earned two individual victories each for the Wolverines.
Palumbo won the 50 free in 25.03 seconds, then took first in the 100 free with a time of 53.74 seconds. Riesmeyer, meanwhile, won the 200 free (1:57.39) and the 500 free (5:16.40).
Sophomore Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) completed Grove City’s sweep of the freestyle events by winning the 1000 in 11:17.27.
Grove City also swept the breaststroke events. Junior Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.56 and sophomore Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.63).
Freshman Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:!3.20).
Grove City opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay as the foursome of senior Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Bargery, Riesmeyer and freshman Natalie Keibler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) posted a time of 1:53.30.
Ryan, Palumbo, junior Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and junior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) posted the top time of 1:40.25 in the meet-ending 200 free relay.The Wolverines will visit Denison Saturday, January 23 in non-conference action.
