Wolverines pick up 13th win
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team earned its school-record 13th victory Thursday night as the Wolverines rolled past host Westminster 176-121 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at Memorial Field House. The Wolverines are now 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Seven different Grove City performers picked up individual wins Thursday night. Sophomore diver Bethany Johnson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) swept the diving events while emerging as a double winner. Johnson won 1-meter diving with 212.45 points, then won 3-meter diving with 202.45 points.
Freshman Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 2.12 seconds while freshman Natalie Keibler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) captured the 200 backstroke in 2:15.70.
Double-winner Ryan also took first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.33) while classmate Kaitlin Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) won the 200 butterfly (2:16.09). Freshman Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) earned first in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 53.81 seconds while sophomore Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) won the 200 breaststroke (2:29.70).
Ryan, Wilt, Riesmeyer and junior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay in 4:05.16. Keibler, Palumbo, sophomore Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and junior Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) closed the meet with a victorious time of 3:42.55 in the 400 free relay.
Grove City set the previous single-season win record last year when the Wolverines went 12-3. The Wolverines will go for their 14th victory in the regular-season finale Saturday against visiting Bethany.
