Grove City takes 5th in 400 free relay; finishes 11th overall

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team concluded the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday night by producing another All-America performance at the University of Minnesota.

Grove City's quartet of freshman Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College), sophomore Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), junior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) and freshman Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) closed the meet by earning fifth place in the 400 free relay with a school-record time of 3 minutes, 28.09 seconds.

The fifth-place finish netted 28 team points, giving the Wolverines 86 total points for the four-day event. That total places Grove City 11th overall in the team standings, which is the program's best-ever finish at the national championships.

Palumbo also earned her first individual All-America honor Saturday night by placing 15th in the 100 free. Palumbo posted a time of 52.18 in the consolation final. She qualified for the consolation final by recording a Grove City-record time of 51.38.

Ryan competed in the preliminaries of the 100 free and earned 22nd with a time of 52.18 seconds.

Palumbo finished the Championships with five All-America honors while Ryan is a four-time All-American. Page picked up her third All-America honor while Richert is now a two-time All-American. Freshman Kaitlin Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) earned three All-America citations during the 2010 Championships while junior Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) earned All-America on Grove City's 200 free relay team.

Grove City's previous best finish at the NCAA Championships came in 2001 and 2002 when the Wolverines finished 23rd each season.

Emory won the national title with 568.5 team points.
