Wolverines faring well at Kenyon
GAMBIER, Ohio -- Members of the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in four events Friday at Kenyon College's Total Performance Invitational.
Sophomore Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) set a new Grove City record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.02 seconds during Friday's preliminaries. That time surpasses the NCAA provisional standard. She recorded a time of 24.13 in the finals to finish eighth.
Palumbo also qualified for the national championships in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.87 during the preliminaries. Palumbo placed sixth in the finals with a time of 1:54.29.
Sophomore Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in the 200 butterfly by posting a time of 2:06.99 in the prelims. She finished eighth in the finals with a 2:07.08 clocking.
Palumbo, sophomore Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College), junior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and senior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) earned fourth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:36.56. That time bests the NCAA provisional standard.
Ryan, Riesmeyer, Palumbo and junior Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) closed the night by taking 10th in the 400 medley relay (4:01.12).
Grove City sits seventh with 159 team points. The University of Pennsylvania leads the competition with 779.5 points. Saturday's action begins at 9 a.m.
