Grove City finishes 7th at Kenyon
GAMBIER, Ohio -- Two members of the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships and the Wolverines' 400 free relay also surpassed a provisional qualifying standard Saturday night in the final evening of Kenyon College's Total Performance Invitational.
Sophomores Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) each recorded fourth-place finishes for the Wolverines. Palumbo took fourth in the 100 free with a time of 52.33 seconds. In Saturday's preliminaries, she posted a time of 52.10, which surpasses the provisional qualifying standard.
Riesmeyer posted a time of 57.86 seconds in the 100 butterfly to provisionally qualify for the national meet.
Palumbo, sophomore Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College), senior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) and junior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) closed the meet by taking fifth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:33.27. The relay squad has now provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships as a result.
Richert added a seventh-place finish in the 100 free (53.15).
Grove City finished with 306 team points. Penn won the team title with 1,433 points, followed by Kenyon with 1,314.
Grove City hosts Hiram next Saturday at 1 p.m.
