Grove City sweeps Chatham, Hiram
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon by sweeping a tri-meet with visiting Chatham and Hiram at James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.
The Wolverines seized a 163-122 victory over conference foe Chatham and also recorded a 183-89 decision over Hiram in non-conference action.
Junior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and sophomore Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) both notched two individual wins apiece for the Wolverines. Richert won the 1000 in 11 minutes, 14.68 seconds and then won the 50 free in 25.81 seconds.
Riesmeyer won the 100 butterfly in 59.03 and posted a winning time of 54.60 in the 100 free.
Sophomore Natalie Keibler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) won the 200 free (2:02.35) while senior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) won the 50 backstroke in 30.42 seconds. Sophomore Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) won the 50 breaststroke (32.69) and junior Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) took the 100 breaststroke (1:10.91).
Sophomore Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the 500 in 5:27.17. Junior diver Rachel Weeber (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) won on the 1-meter board with 179.15 points. She also posted a top score of 212.90 in 3-meter diving as an exhibition competitor.
Keibler, Wilt, freshman Janele Baglia (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and senior Tiffani Douglas (Sayre, Pa./Homeschooled) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:56.94.
Page touched first in the 50 fly (28.50) as an exhibition swimmer and Palumbo recorded a top time of 2:15.53 as an exhibition swimmer in the 200 individual medley.
Grove City will visit Washington & Jefferson January 15 in conference action.
