Wolverines charge past Westminster
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wednesday night with a 160-130 victory over conference rival Westminster at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.
Three Grove City performers posted multiple victories in the meet. Sophomore Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) earned three individual wins while classmates Kaitlin Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) both picked up two wins each.
Palumbo won the 50 free in 24.38 seconds and also recorded a victorious time of 53.45 in the 100 free. She won the 200 free in 1:58.25. Ryan won the 1000 in 10:52.69 and later won the 500 in 5:17.41. She also recorded the top time in the 200 individual medley (2:13.67) on an exhibition basis.
Riesmeyer swept the butterfly for the Wolverines, winning the 100 in 59.46 and taking the 200 fly in 2:11.64.
Junior Rachel Weeber (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) won 3-meter diving with 199.90 points.
Palumbo, Riesmeyer, Ryan and junior Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) opened Wednesday's meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:51.15. Junior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), sophomore Natalie Keibler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), senior Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and senior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) touched first in the meet-ending 400 free relay with an exhibition time of 3:44.02.
Grove City will close the regular season Saturday with a home dual meet against conference foe Bethany at 1 p.m. Several Wolverines will also compete in the University of Pittsburgh Quad at 11 a.m. Saturday.
