Grove City tops Bethany

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team closed the Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet schedule Saturday with a 111-94 victory over visiting Bethany at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. Grove City improved to 4-1 in the conference.

Senior Tiffani Douglas (Sayre, Pa./Homeschooled) helped pace Grove City by picking up a pair of individual victories. She won the 200 free in 2 minutes, 7.76 seconds and then won the 50 free in 26.20 seconds.

Freshman Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) won the 1650 in 19:25.73 while junior Larissa Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) took first in the 200 butterfly (2:26.52). Freshman Janele Baglia (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) won the 100 free in 57.60 seconds. Senior Stephanie McNeill (Lake Jackson, Texas/Brazoswood) won 1-meter diving with 176.35 points.

Cassano, Baglia, junior Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and sophomore Emily Franz (Fort Myers, Fla./Homeschooled) opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay in 4:31.61.

Grove City swimmers also posted the fast time in several events on an exhibition basis. Cassano recorded a 2:25.92 clocking in the 200 backstroke while Baglia recorded a time of 1:05.56 in the 100 butterfly. Fleming touched first in the 400 individual medley (5:10.74) and sophomore Mary McLachlan (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) touched first in the 500 with a time of 5:46.60.

Baur, Douglas, McLachlan and Fleming closed the meet with an exhibition time of 1:49.16 in the 200 free relay.

Grove City will host the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships as part of the James E. Longnecker Invitational February 17-19.
