Five earn All-America Thursday night

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team produced a pair of All-America performances Thursday night at the NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by Beloit College and the College of Wooster at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center.

Grove City opened Thursday's finals by taking 12th in the 200 free relay. The foursome of sophomore Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College), junior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), senior Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) and sophomore Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) recorded a time of 1 minute, 35.82 seconds in the finals. Earlier in the preliminaries, the squad set a new school record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:35.19.

Later Thursday, sophomore Kaitlin Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) earned her fifth career All-America honor by finishing fifth in the 100 butterfly with a school-record time of 56.03 seconds. It is Riesmeyer's best individual finish at the NCAA Championships.

Denison won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:32.33. Williams College junior Logan Todhunter won the 100 butterfly in 53.57.

Palumbo, Richert and Ryan all competed in the preliminaries Thursday morning. Palumbo finished 25th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.31. Richert took 34th in that event with a 1:54.55 clocking. Ryan earned 23rd in the 400 individual medley (4:36.63).

Palumbo now owns seven All-America citations while Ryan is a six-time All-American. Page has five All-America honors on her ledger and Richert is a three-time NCAA Division III All-American.

Grove City has accumulated 30 team points through the first two days of the four-day event. That total places Grove City 16th in the team standings.

Friday's preliminaries begin at 10 a.m.
