Wolverines humble Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened dual-meet action in the 2011-12 season Saturday afternoon by rolling to a 159-111 triumph at Allegheny in non-conference competition.

Four Grove City athletes recorded multiple victories in the meet. Junior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the 500 free in 5 minutes, 19.53 seconds and took first in the 1000 (10:57.78). Ryan also posted the top time in the 400 individual medley (4:46.36).

Junior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) won the 100 free in 54.00 seconds and added a victory in the 200 free (1:59.53). Senior Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) swept the breaststroke for Grove City, winning the 100 in 1:13.08 and then taking the 200-yard race in 2:32.67.

Freshman Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) won the 100 backstroke in 1:03.35 and then took the 200 backstroke in 2:16.77.

Senior diver Rachel Weeber (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) won 1-meter diving with 193.35 points and then posted the top score in 3-meter action with 195.70 points. Junior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) won the 200 butterfly (2:11.09) and then touched first in the 100 fly (59.63).

Cassano, Riesmeyer, Ryan and sophomore Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:54.09. Cassano, Riesmeyer, Palumbo and junior Emily Franz (Fort Myers, Fla./Homeschooled) closed the meet with a top time of 1:42.21 in the 200 free relay.

Grove City will host Saint Vincent next Saturday in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at 1 p.m.
