Wolverines roll past Carnegie Mellon

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 overall Saturday afternoon with a 162-136 home win over non-conference rival Carnegie Mellon in the James E. Longnecker Pool.

Junior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) recorded three individual victories to help pace the Wolverines. She won the 200 free in 1 minute, 57.20 seconds, then swept both butterfly races. She won the 100 fly in 58.61 seconds and took the 200 fly in 2:11.10.

Junior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) secured wins in both the 50 and 100 free races. She won the 50 in 24.68 seconds and then won the 100 free in 53.48 seconds.

Senior Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.98 while freshman Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) prevailed in the 100 backstroke (1:01.16).

Cassano, Wilt, Riesmeyer and Palumbo opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:50.15. Freshman Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled), sophomore Janele Baglia (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), senior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and junior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the meet-ending 400 free relay in 3:41.97.

The Wolverines will visit Case Western next Saturday for a tri-meet with Case and Kenyon at 1 p.m.
