Grove City competes at Case Quad
CLEVELAND -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team went 1-2 at the Case Western Reserve Quad Saturday at the Veale Center. Grove City earned a 206-101 win over host Case. The Wolverines also dropped narrow decisions to Kenyon (155-142) and Division II Gannon (177-133). Grove City is now 4-2 overall.
Juniors Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) both earned individual wins for the Wolverines. Palumbo won the 50 free in 24.60 seconds while Riesmeyer took first in the 100 butterfly with a winning time of 59.22.
Riesmeyer also finished second in the 200 free (1:57.27) and Palumbo added a runner-up finish in the 100 free (53.96). Senior diver Rachel Weeber (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) took second in both diving events. She posted 167.15 points in 1-meter diving, then recorded a total score of 175.00 in 3-meter competition.
Palumbo, Riesmeyer, freshman Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and senior Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) opened the meet by taking second in the 200 medley relay (1:51.23). Junior Emily Franz (Fort Myers, Fla./Homeschooled), junior Natalie Keibler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), senior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and junior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) closed the meet by earning second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.53.
Grove City will host its annual Winter Invitational December 2-3 in the James E. Longnecker Invitational. Several Wolverine swimmers will also compete in the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational that same weekend.
