Wolverines roll past Wooster

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 8-3 overall Saturday afternoon with a 166-114 victory over visiting Wooster in non-conference action at the James E. Longnecker Invitational.

Senior Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) and junior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) both recorded two individual wins for Grove City. Wilt swept the breaststroke, winning the 100 in 1 minute, 9.28 seconds, and then taking the 200 breaststroke with a victorious time of 2:29.33.

Palumbo won the 50 free in 24.59 seconds, then won the 100 in 53.46.

Freshman Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.24 while junior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the 200 individual medley (2:12.17). Junior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) prevailed in the 200 butterfly with a winning time of 2:10.28.

Senior Rachel Weeber (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) won 1-meter diving with 193.65 points.

Cassano, Wilt, Riesmeyer and Ryan opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay in 4:02.63. Sophomore Janele Baglia (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), freshman Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled), senior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Palumbo closed the meet by winning the 200 free relay in 1:40.17.

Grove City will visit Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Westminster Thursday at 6 p.m.
