Grove City now 9-3
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 159-128 league win at Westminster Thursday night at Memorial Field House.
Junior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) recorded three victories for the Wolverines while junior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College), junior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and freshman Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) all posted two wins each.
Palumbo swept the sprints, winning the 50 free in 24.33 seconds. She also won the 100 free in 53.38 and the 200 free in a winning time of 1:57.04.
Ryan won the 500 in 5:19.92 and prevailed in the 1000 with a winning mark of 10:50.43. Riesmeyer, meanwhile, swept the butterfly. She won the 100 fly in a pool-record time of 58.52 seconds and also took the 200 fly in 2:09.66.
Cassano swept the backstroke for the Wolverines, winning the 100 in 1:01.28 and the 200 back in 2:13.97.
Senior diver Rachel Weeber (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) won 1-meter diving with a score of 188.10 points. She also posted the top 3-meter score (208.45) on an exhibition basis.
Cassano, Riesmeyer, Palumbo and sophomore Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:50.80. Riesmeyer, Ryan, freshman Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and senior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) capped the evening with the top time in the 400 free relay (3:39.69).
Grove City will visit conference foe Bethany Saturday at 1 p.m. A number of Wolverine competitors will compete in the University of Pittsburgh Quad Saturday at 11 a.m.
