Wolverines top Bethany in conference finale
BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team closed its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a 92-70 win at Bethany in Hummel Field House. Grove City improved to 5-0 in the league and 11-6 overall.
Freshman Faith Gregorchick (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) swept the breaststroke to help lead the Wolverines. She won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 13.29 seconds and then took the 200 breaststroke in 2:38.89.
Sophomore Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) also earned two wins for the Wolverines. She won the 100 free in 59.25 seconds and then took the 200 free in 2:06.74.
Junior Olivia Forish (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) won the 50 free (25.77) and posted the top time in the 400 individual medley on an exhibition basis (5:09.69).
Also for the Wolverines, senior Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) won the 1000 (19:51.89), freshman Emily Swanson (Wattsburg, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) captured the 100 backstroke (1:08.14), sophomore Jennifer Lucht (Glastonbury, Conn./Centennial, Md.) prevailed in the 200 backstroke (2:34.27) and senior Caroline Simmons (Edinboro, Pa./Saucon Valley) won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.44.
Junior Mary McLachlan (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) recorded an exhibition time of 5:44.10 in the 500. She also anchored Grove City's victorious 200 medley relay (2:05.32), which included Forish, Gregorchick and Simmons.
Swanson, Baur, junior Emily Franz (Fort Myers, Fla./Homeschooled) and sophomore Sarah Nosal (Austin, Texas/Westwood) closed the meet by recording the top time in the 200 free relay (1:46.89).
Grove City will host the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships as part of the James E. Longnecker Invitational February 16-18.
