Wolverines post strong effort at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team produced a pair of All-America efforts Friday night at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by IUPUI.

Grove City's 800 free relay team of junior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College), senior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), junior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and junior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) captured sixth place in the event with a time of 7 minutes, 30.27 seconds.

Grove City entered the Championships as the No. 6 seed nationally in the 800 free relay. Williams won the 800 free relay title with a national-record time of 7:18.15.

Riesmeyer also earned her first individual All-America citation at this year's national meet by finishing seventh in the 200 butterfly. She recorded a time of 2:04.14 in the finals. Riesmeyer also went 2:04.14 in the preliminaries. She entered the meet as the 12th seed in the 200 fly.

Williams senior Logan Todhunter won the 200 fly in a Division III-record time of 1:55.66.

Grove City currently sits 11th in the team standings with 73 team points, just three behind 10th-place Gustavus Adolphus. The Wolverines have finished 11th at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons.

Palumbo now owns 13 All-America honors while Ryan is an 11-time All-American. Riesmeyer is a 10-time NCAA Division III All-American and Richert is a seven-time All-American.

Saturday's preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m.
